Life’s A Beach | Burlington Maternity Photographer | Robyn S. Russell Photography
Sometimes, when I close my eyes, I instantly know what I’m going to do for someone who wants their portraits done. And in this case, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for Cynthia and Mitch! I actually had a couple ideas in mind that came to life right in front of my eyes.

I met this cute couple a few years ago when Mitch started taking guitar lessons with my hubby. They were neighbours, but we didn’t get a chance to hang out with them a lot because we had little babies in our lives, leaving us without much of a social life for a while! When Mitch told us they were expecting, we were over the moon with excitement! His happiness was infectious! And it was at that moment, that I started planning for this. I knew we had to do something incredibly special … but I also wanted it to reflect who they are as individuals. I thought a picnic in the park would work beautifully but I wanted to incorporate music too!

The light was super dreamy for their photos. Golden light. Sweet hour. Whatever you call it, it’s magical, which is exactly what I wanted for their session. In fact, we couldn’t have asked for a better night (despite most of the day being rubbish). We walked around for a while looking for the perfect location for their picnic. Once we found the perfect spot and the best light for their golden light feast!

Sigh. After a quick wardrobe change, we finished off the session at our beautiful beach in Burlington. The lighting couldn’t have been more perfect! Lighting is everything people! It was absolutely crucial that it was perfect for the mood of these photos. We really couldn’t have asked for a better evening!

Ahh! I can’t get over how stinkin’ cute you guys are! Cynthia and Mitch, you guys were amazing. You took my ideas and ran with it and I have to tell you, it was one of my favourite sessions to date. It meant so much for me to have the opportunity to document such an important stage in your lives. I hope you look back on this time (and your time with me) fondly! I know I sure do! And on that note, I am leaving you with one of my favourite images. Ever. Until next time, Robyn xo

A Maternal Goddess | Burlington Maternity Photographer | Robyn S. Russell Photography
Meet Mary, pregnant with her first born son Ante. Isn’t she gorgeous!?

When I saw Mary for the first time, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for her maternity photo shoot. She has porcelain skin and long flowy brown hair. She looked like a goddess to me. Immediately, I thought of doing something really organic and in the wild. Something outdoors with deep brown and green tones. A lot of drama. A bit of fine art grunge. A goddess in the woods!! We did it all. And I’m so happy with how they turned out!
We also did a few soft and pretty shots to round out the session. This one below in particular being one of our favourites! There’s something very calming about being surrounded by flowers. Although we went to Bronte Creek (because I wanted a quiet wooded area), finding this flower patch was the icing on the cake! I took the last two photos almost at the side of the road. It just goes to show you that you can find inspiration wherever you go. You just need to look for it!

Mary, you were a vision … literally. I pictured something in my mind and you made it come true. It was great working with you (and seeing you today). I cannot wait to share your newborn session on the blog … it’s coming up soon! Until next time, Robyn xo
Girl Power | Burlington Family Photographer | Robyn S. Russell Photography
Sorry Kyle! But you are severely outnumbered with a gorgeous wife, two beautiful girls (and a baby on the way who has decided to join the girl team)! Meet the Clark family!
This amazing family contacted me for a portrait session back in October — but Movember, errrr I mean November, almost ruined it for us all (laugh). Now, don’t get me wrong. I completely support Movember (most of you know that my hubby also grew a little caterpillar on his face, so I really can’t say anything negative about it all) but I don’t blame Cathie for wanting the session to happen after Movember was over. At the beginning of the month, I thought …. “No problem”. This time last year, we were out in long sleeved sweaters. No jackets were necessary. My roses were still in bloom!! It’ll be fine! Well, I was wrong (which is why I am not a weather forecaster, thank you very much). On Saturday morning, the day of their session, we woke up to gusty winds and … SNOW! Our first official snowfall for the season! And while I was super excited to see that fluffy stuff, I also wondered what it would do to our portrait session. So, Cathie and I decided to improvise by doing a few in and outdoor shots. This actually worked out so well because I was able to capture the girls in their gorgeous Christmas dresses … aren’t they adorable?! I love this moment … hugging with your eyes closed. Doesn’t get any better than this!

The girls and I enjoyed putting decorations on the tree and dancing to the Black Eyed Peas before bundling up for the outdoors. Miraculously, the wind disappeared and so did the snow, which made for the perfect afternoon to take outdoor photos in Burlington! WOW, what a gorgeous family! I am swooning over these photos because they were real moments captured … the girls were literally two seconds away from falling over in laughter, I kid you not! And I absolutely love their outfits! Cathie, you did a great job!

We let the girls play for a few minutes while I snuck in some one-on-one time with their gorgeous mama and handsome daddy! We did a few maternity shots — some of my favourite images from the session! Can you believe Cathie is due on December 22nd! Seriously, you are one of the most beautiful (and lucky) pregnant women I’ve ever seen! And if you’re asking yourself why Cathie looks familiar, it’s because she can be seen in all the billboards for AutoPark Superstore in Burlington (yep, she’s the cutie with the belly in the photos)!

After playing in the leaves, we went indoors for some yummy hot chocolate and more picture taking (although the girls were way more interested in the marshmallows and sprinkles, who can blame em)! All in all, a wonderful day of love and photography! I’ll love the last photo I posted above (and it’s not just because both girls were looking in the camera haha)! We were singing the theme song to Dora. This is what parenthood is all about. I also have a knack for embarrassing myself in front of my clients to get “the” shot! What can I say, it’s my job and I love it through and through!
Cathie & Kyle, thanks so much for welcoming me into your home and hearts! And thank you for being so patient with me as I nursed my laryngitis/bronchitis over the last few days. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with you and look forward to our upcoming sessions this month!!
